Before I was in real estate…

I was in the military for 25 years. I joined the Royal Australian Air Force when I was 17. After a brief stint in Catering, I became a supply clerk with postings to Williamtown NSW, East Sale VIC, Tindal NT and Canberra.

If I wasn’t in real estate…

I would probably be retired (and bored).

When I was 18…

I wish I knew that I would be married within the next 12 months. (I was married the day before my 19th birthday.)

The person I admire the most is…

Carl Sagan, for the most profound ‘ah-ha’ moment in my life seeing his quote on ‘the pale blue dot’… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO5FwsblpT8

Over the years…

I have learnt that being organised is the real secret to happiness.

On money…

Like most people, enough to be able to travel and be comfortable in retirement.

Leah and I bought our first home…

in Medowie, NSW when we were 22. It was the best investment we ever made. We now live in Dunlop, ACT.

My dream house would be…

it might need some minor tweaking but our current home in Dunlop is my dream home; however, the ‘dream garden’ is a work in progress. Once the garden is finished, only then will the dream be complete!

I had the time of my life when…

Leah and I travelled to England in 2012; best holiday ever!

The biggest lesson I have ever learnt is …

how quickly the year’s pass; it makes no sense worrying about the things you have no control over. Best to be happy and enjoy life because the days and the years go so quickly.

My motto in life is…

from my favourite poem ‘Invictus’, ‘It matters not how strait the gait, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am captain of my soul.’

My favourite pastime…

I can’t have one hobby; I’d get bored too quickly. In my downtime I have several interests: a good movie; ‘playing’ the guitar; music; writing my book (another work in progress); spending time in the garden; holidays; Chinese gardens and studying history would round out the favourites.

I’d like to…

spend more time holidaying in the UK; From the Romans to the Beatles, I love the history and there’s so much in England that we haven’t seen.

Nothing beats…

the feeling of becoming a grandfather; this was best described in a quote I read… ‘As I grew older I thought my best years were behind me, then I became a grandfather and realised that the best years were yet to come.
